We've updated the Nashville Drupaler's site to Drupal 7, and made a lot of changes.

If you had an account on the old site and are wondering what happened to it, well, we left it there.

We did not migrate any of the old accounts over because we had a large account base but weren't sure how many were actually active members, and many members don't bother to login anyway.

For some time now I've had a sneaking suspicion that the reason so many developers prefer Context over Drupal's block system boils down to developers taking power away from the client's admin. There may be clumsy aspects to blocks, but client's can understand them. This is well illustrated in this excellent post by Randall Knutson.

In a few weeks—a week or maybe two—we'll be switching over to a new Nashville Drupalers web site (this one, if you're reading this here). It's a Drupal 7 site and has been considerably scaled down insofar as content and features are concerned.

We decided to keep it simple. It's been stripped down to the basics of who we are as a group; events and meetings; social media links (for following our activities); and, for now, undecidedly, a blog.

As a group we've debated about the value of having a blog on our site. Sometimes it seems like a given, but it's not helpful if nobody blogs. We had one on the old site, but overall it hasn't had much activity other than for basic things like announcements, etc.

Before I got involved in the drupal community, I’d never heard of IRC.
